Interesting Facts About Living in Mexicali

Hello, my petites! I hope you had a beautiful holiday season. I’ve been eating a lot of tamales since I arrived to my hometown, Mexicali ,two weeks ago. I’m going back to Phoenix with some extra pounds, I swear to God!  To my defense, it’s difficult to say no to all the dinners and lunches that my friends and family have been inviting me to.

Ever since I came back,  I have been really grateful to this desert city that I used to hate while I was on my teen years. Mexicali has it’s own beauty, and it’s has grown so much in the past years. It’s a whole new city to me.  To be honest with you,  there are a lot of things I miss from it like the regional food, attending  the Fiestas Sol, our annual festival during September-October, hanging out with my friends and having some nachos, and partying at Justo Sierra, (some sort of main street). That’s why I came up with the idea of letting you know some interesting facts about the desert of Mexicali.

1. Chinese food is our traditional dish. The city was founded by Chinese people. You will find a Chinese restaurant in every corner.
2. The heat and cold are worst than Phoenix. And that’s something …
3. It is a border town and you can travel by car to anywhere. You’re 2 hours apart from San Diego, 3 to 4 hours from Los Angeles,  so you are able to go to Disneyland, and if you want something more crazy, Mexicali is 5 hours apart from Las Vegas. 
4. Lupita Jones, the first Mexican to won Miss Universe is from my city. So we are very beautiful women.
5. We are the warmest people in the world.  Mexicans are very friendly and social, but I feel that the people from Mexicali are MORE!

I just wanted to tell you a little about where I grew up. One must value it’s hometown. If it had not been for Mexicali and everything it offered me, I wouldn’t be where I am now. Thank you Mexicali for your strong heat, your people, CETYS, and especially my family and friends.

¡Hola mis petites! Espero que hayan tenido unas hermosas fiestas y que sigan disfrutando con todo el Guadalupe-Reyes. Yo ya he perdido cuenta de todos los tamales que he comido desde que llegue a Mexicali.  Voy a llegar a Phoenix con unos kilitos de más. Uno no lo puede evitar. Me invitan diario a comer y cenar y no puedo decir que no.  Ya llevo una semana y media en mi ciudad natal. He apreciado mucho esta ciudad que antes la odiaba. Realmente Mexicali tiene su belleza. Ha crecido demasiado en los últimos años. Extraño mucho su comida. Es por eso que quiero contarles de 5 cosas interesantes sobre este desierto que me vio crecer.

1. La comida china es nuestro platillo tradicional. Fuimos fundados por chinos por lo que cada esquina de la ciudad te vas a encontrar un restaurante chino.
2. El calor y frío es más fuerte que el de Phoenix. Y eso es decir algo…
3. Es una ciudad fronteriza y puedes viajar gusto en carro por California fácilmente. Tienes a 2 horas San Diego, 3 a 4 horas los Angeles por lo que puedes ir a Disneyland y si quieres algo más extremo, 5 horas puedes ir a Las Vegas en Nevada.
4. Lupita Jones, la primera mexicana en ganar Miss Universo es de mi ciudad. Por lo que somos muy bellas mujeres.
5. Somos las personas más cálidas del mundo. De por sí, el mexicano es muy amigable y social, siento que la gente de Mexicali lo es MUCHO MÁS!

Simplemente quería contarles un poco de donde crecí. Uno debe de valor donde uno creció. Si no hubiera sido por Mexicali y todo lo que me ofreció, no estaría donde estoy ahora. Gracias Mexicali por tu calor fuerte, tu gente, CETYS,  y sobre todo mi familia y amigos.
