Day of the Dead Festival in Phoenix
Exactly one month ago, it was El Día de Muertos. Definitely one of the most beautiful traditions that my beloved México has. I was so happy when Toyota invited me to the annual Día de Los Muertos or Day of the Dead Festival in Downton Phoenix. In case you don’t know, Day of the Dead is a celebration on the memory of our deceased loved ones.
This year was their sixth Day of the Dead Festival in St. Mary’s Basilica. This is a family event and free to the public in Downton Phoenix. To be honest, I didn’t expected so many people to be at the festival, but it was crowd it. You could see families everywhere. It was impressive. A lot of catrinas, ballet Folklorico, food trucks, and ofrendas. Ofrendas are altars that honor our ancestors. Some of the ofrendas were on the back of the cars, some were vintage, and others were in Toyota’s cars. The designs were so beautiful and magical. It was so hard to take pictures of the ofrendas because again it was crowded it. You can see in the pictures how little space I had.
I grew up on doing ofrendas at school and in my house. This is so amazing to see it in Arizona and I’m so happy kids who were born in USA but are from Mexican parents are able to experience Día de Muertos and Mexican culture. I’m happy these kind of events or movies like Coco are educating and making an impact on this country.
I had a great time. I had an elote because corns are the best, especially Mexican corn. Mayonnaise and cheese on a corn is one of my favorite Mexican snacks.
I recommend for next year to go early to find a good parking spot, bring cash for donations to the Church or food, and take advantage of the festival.
I can’t wait for next year to go to the festival and thank you Toyota for inviting me to the festival and letting me borrow for one week their new Toyota Camry. I felt like a gal from Fast and Furious driving this car. It’s such a sport car and I loved the red color. That week, I was driving the new 2020 Toyota Camry, I was such a badass on the streets in Scottsdale. You can visit your closets Toyota Dealer to try their new model. It’s definitely beautiful!
