Book Club: #GIRLBOSS
The first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the words “GIRL BOSS” is Sophia Amoruso, the founder of Nasty Gal, one of the most successful online boutique nowadays. Sophia Amoruso is an icon, not just a style con,she really knows how to do business … because ladies and gentlemen, the world can be conquered in a pair of Miu Miu stilettos and with just 31 years old, Sophia has changed the way we do e-commerce.
My friend, Pablo from the blog, FUNGI EXPRESS, and I decided to choose #GIRLBOSS for this BOOK CLUB post (you can read more about our other book reviews here), because we both love fashion and we both admire Sophia. It is ideal book for entrepreneurs, bloggers, content creators, creatives and those clueless who don’t know what to do with their lives.
I had the opportunity to meet Sophia last year at her book signing in Phoenix. I was lucky that my copy was signed by her and took a picture with this #GIRLBOSS. I must admit that she is shy in person, but thanks to the book I could better understand her personality better.
#GIRLBOSS is a short and easy book to read. It’s an autobiography with a very personal tone that makes us feel like we are reading the story of your best friend in a coffeeshop. Many classify this story as a digital version of Cinderella: from the difficult beginnings where Sophia had all kinds of jobs, no future plans, and no education, shoplifting and going against everything until she discovered her obsession for e-commerce when she sold a stolen book on Ebay…the rest is history and we don’t want to spoil too much, but it was the beginning of one of the most inspiring stories in the world of contemporary fashion.
Should you read #GIRLBOSS? 100%. We are in an age where we want to be rich very quickly, but without working, that’s why stories like Sophia can inspire you to achieve your millennial dream. What I think it’s cool, it not about a book with certain advices on how to achieve success, but real experiences of a real woman.

Lo primero que se te viene a la cabeza cuando escuchas las palabras GIRL BOSS es Sophia Amoruso, la fundadora de Nasty Gal, una de las compañías de venta de ropa online más rentables de la actualidad. Sophia Amoruso es todo un icono y no sólo de estilo, sino también empresarial… Porque sí señores, el mundo se puede conquistar en stilettos Miu Miu y a sus 31 años, Sophia ha cambiado la manera de hacer e-commerce.
Mi amigo, Pablo del blog FUNGI EXPRESS y yo decidimos elegir #GIRLBOSS para esta edición del BOOK CLUB porque los dos amamos la moda y admiramos a Sophia. Se trata de un libro ideal para empresarios, bloggers, creadores de contenido, creativos y aquellos despistados que no saben que hacer con su vida.
Yo tuve la oportunidad de conocer a Sophia el año pasado en una firma de libros en Phoenix. Tuve la suerte de que Sophia firmara mi copia y tomarme una foto con ella. Debo admitir que es más tímida en persona e incluso su voz denota un tono de inseguridad, pero gracias al libro pude entender mejor su personalidad.
#GIRLBOSS es un libro corto y fácil de leer, de corte autobiográfico con un tono muy personal que nos hace sentir como si estuviéramos leyendo la historia de una amiga cercana en un café. Muchos clasifican esta historia como una versión digital de la Cenicienta: desde los inicios difíciles donde Sophia tuvo todo tipo de trabajos, sin planes a futuro y sin estudios, robando en tiendas y yendo en contra de todo hasta obsesionarse con las ventas por internet al vender en eBay un libro que había robado… El resto es historia y tampoco queremos spoilear mucho, pero fue el inicio de una de las historias más inspiradoras del mundo de la moda contemporánea.
¿#GIRLBOSS es recomendable? 100%. Estamos en una época donde queremos ser ricos muy rápido, pero sin trabajar; es por eso que las anécdotas de Sophia te pueden inspirar a lograr tu sueño millennial, lo cool a mi parecer es que no se trata de consejos certeros sobre como conseguir el éxito empresarial, sino vivencias reales de una mujer real.
