When Phoenix gets to the big hundred during summer, everyone wants to escape to the charming little town of Flagstaff. It’s a small town just 2 hours north of Phoenix that has the perfect temperature, making it the perfect getaway for us Phoenicians!
If you’re new to Phoenix and never been to Flagstaff, here are some fun ideas to try as you travel the town.
Nature
If you’re a person who enjoys hiking, this is your place. Last year, I did the challenging hike of Humphreys peak. It’s a 7 hours hike. It’s the highest point in all of Arizona! It’s a beautiful hike through the forest and you’re going to see a couple of deer. The trail is next to the Arizona Bowl. I know there are a couple of other hikes around the town as well. There are also a ton of fire pits where you can make s’mores with your friends!
Now that winter is coming, you can go to ski and snowboard at Arizona Bowl. I did it for the first time last year and I died (haha), but it’s fun. You would never believe that in just a few hours from Phoenix, you can find snow.
Food & Drinks
Flagstaff is known for their brewery–no surprise for a college town. I’m not a beer person but to be honest, I fell in love with the cider from Mother Road Brewing in downtown Flagstaff. You can get samples and order food from the local restaurants around the block. It’s pet friendly and the vibe is very relaxing.
For food, you need to go to PIZZICLETA. They have the best pizza I’ve ever had in my life. Their ingredients come all the way from Italy. The restaurant opens at 5 pm. It’s a small place, so it books pretty fast. I recommend standing outside around 4:30 pm to make sure you get in. I got the margarita pizza with soppresata, bread with in-house butter and Lambrusco wine. It totally changed my life!
Downtown Flagstaff
There’s no better way to enjoy Flagstaff than by walking around the downtown area. You can go shop in their local stores and sometimes, they have live music or events around. Grab a coffee at Macy’s, and maybe a drink at the famous Motel Montevista. Did you know it’s a haunted hotel? That’s what people have told me!
I think Flagstaff is a wonderful getaway from the hustle and bustle of Phoenix. I think you all would love it!
